Interview Edgar from Visual Trust on Vimeo.

The conversation taps into the question of images in anthropological research and investigates the relationship between anthropology and forms of knowledge production. It analyzes how images not only construct a discipline but also contribute to the construction of alterity in the form of a nation, highlighting the political dimension of a country (like Brazil). The aim is to reduce the distance between the political and social dimensions of images, examining the constitutive political dimensions of iconic representations.

The rich experience of the researcher and filmmaker Edgar Teodoro da Cunha in filmmaking is discussed, with a trajectory that began with the production of a film about Jean Rouch following more ethnological films about indigenous groups like the Bororos, Kaiowá, among other collaborations with anthropologists and other professionals.

Finally, the relationship between trust and images in the context of anthropological research is explored, addressing the denaturalization of images that require contextual understanding to be grasped. In contemporary times, practices of falsification and positioning have become radicalized, making trust a key term in visual research and anthropology.
